Former University of South Carolina standout Mike Boynton, Jr. will join Darrin Horn's first staff in Columbia as an assistant men's basketball coach, it was announced today. Boynton joins Scott Cherry and Cypheus Bunton as the full-time assistant coaches on the Gamecock staff. more
Golfweek named South Carolina sophomore Bénédicte Toumpsin its Women's Player of the Week today after she picked up her first career victory at the NCAA East Regional on Saturday. It was her first career victory and came by one stroke over two players, including the nation's top-ranked player, Amanda Blumenherst, from Duke. more
South Carolina (34-18) returns home for its final four regular season games of the 2008 season beginning on Tuesday night with a non-conference tilt vs. The Citadel (25-26) with first pitch scheduled for 7 pm at Sarge Frye Field. Live video broadcast is available at gamecocksonline.com and on 107.5 FM "The Game" in Columbia with Mike Morgan and Tommy Moody on the call. Carolina is ranked No. 18 in both the Collegiate Baseball Top 30 and USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll as of Monday afternoon. Three South Carolina football players have been named to the 2008 Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List, as announced by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) on Monday. The award is given to the best defensive player in college football and is sponsored by the Charlotte Touchdown Club. Junior strong safety Emanuel Cook, junior defensive back Captain Munnerlyn and junior linebacker Eric Norwood were each named to the 88-member list for the Gamecocks. more
