South Carolina rising sophomore Wesley Bryan begins his quest for a USGA championship Monday as the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship is underway at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club on the campus of the University of Oklahoma. Bryan joins 155 other individuals in 36 holes of stroke-play qualifying on Monday and Tuesday before match play begins on Wednesday.

M. Golf. George Bryan IV Takes Second at Players Amateur

It was almost back-to-back titles at the Players Amateur for South Carolina golfers as rising senior George Bryan IV finished second at the 10th annual event, which concluded on Sunday at the West Course at Belfair Golf ClubGe. Bryan shot 284 (-4) over the four-day event to finish two strokes back of tournament champion Bud Cauley, a rising sophomore at the University of Alabama. Defending tournament champion and former Gamecock Mark Anderson tied for third, one shot back of Bryan at 285 (-3).

South Carolina golfers Mark Silvers III, George Bryan IV and Patrick Rada were selected as Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Thursday. The trio of Gamecocks were among 108 NCAA Division I players who earned the honor.

South Carolina signee Kelsey Bone is one of the five athletes who helped the U.S. secure its berth in the 2009 FIBA U19 World Championship and will be on the team that defends its back-to-back gold medals July 23-August 2 in Bangkok, Thailand. The USA Women's U19 Team will train at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., July 9-16 before departing for Bangkok.

South Carolina rising sophomore Wesley Bryan put up a tough fight in the championship match of the 109th annual North & South Amateur Championship, but fell just short to Stanford's David Chung in the 36-hole final on Saturday, 4 and 3. Bryan led a contingent of five Gamecock golfers that had a strong showing at the historic Pinehurst No. 2 that included George Bryan IV, Mark Silvers, Patrick Rada and Paul Woodbury.

South Carolina outfielder Jackie Bradley, Jr. (Prince George, Va./Prince George HS) has been named to the Baseball America 2009 Freshman All-American Team as announced on Wednesday morning. Bradley, a first-team selection, had a productive first season with the Gamecocks batting .349 (89-for-255) with 11 HR and 46 RBI and played in all 63 games on the year with 61 starts. Bradley ended the season on a high note as well with a productive NCAA Regional in Greenville, N.C. as he hit .500 (9-for-18) for the weekend with a pair of homers and eight runs scored as well.

South Carolina women's tennis players Miljana Jocic and Natasa Vuckovic will represent Serbia at the World University Games in Belgrade, Serbia, over July 1-12. The tennis portion of the games, which includes singles, doubles and mixed doubles, begins July 3 and concludes July 11.
