Constitution

Mission Statement

The mission statement of the University of South Carolina Student-Athlete Advisory committee is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare, and fostering a positive student-athlete image.

Purpose

1. To generate a student-athlete voice within the university structure by supplying a vehicle of communication between the athletic administration and student athletes.
2. To provide equal and representative input of USC student-athletes.
3. To solicit student-athlete responses to proposed conference and NCAA legislation.
4. To build a sense of community within the athletic program involving all athletics teams.
5. To organize community service efforts.
6. To promote a positive student-athlete image on campus.

Composition

The USC SAAC is composed of two or more athletes who compete in their respective varsity sport at USC. Ex-officio members include the Director of Student-Athlete Development, the Senior Associate Athletics Director, and the Compliance/ NCAA Faculty Representative. In addition, if not already a member of the SAAC, USC's representative to the NCAA National Leadership Conference will serve as a member. Former SAAC members who have completed their eligibility may also attend meetings to lend their experiences.

Representative Selection Process

The initial members of the USC SAAC were nominated by their respective coach.

Terms for the student-athletes are parallel to their eligibility; as long as a student-athlete is eligible to compete in their sport, they may remain on the SAAC.

When a member completes their eligibility, it is their duty to select and mentor the next student-athlete to represent their team. This selection process will promote a sense of personal responsibility to the success of the USC SAAC.
