Olympic gold medalist Monique Hennagan returned home to Columbia and is a third year volunteer coach with the South Carolina track and field program. Her primary responsibilities include working with the men's and women's sprinters and middle distance runners.

She also competed in the 2001 World Championships in the 400 meters and 4X400 relay. She won a gold with the USA's 4x400m relay at the Goodwill Games.

Hennagan won a gold medal with the USA's 4x400m relay at the Sydney Olympics, making the semifinals of the 400m. She is a member of Speed Elite.

Hennagan, 24, competed at North Carolina from 1994-98 and received a degree in Psychology. She won two NCAA titles: the indoor 400m and the outdoor 800m. An eight-time ACC individual champion, Hennagan was the 400m ACC champion four straight years.

In 1998 she finished fourth at the Goodwill Games in the 400m. She ran on the 4x400m relay at the World Indoor Championships that set the American record, winning the bronze medal.

She won the 400m at the 1993 and '94 Junior Nationals. Hennagan attended Spring Valley High School. Spring Valley won the state team title three times as she won state individual titles in the 100m, 200, 400m and with the 4x400m relay. The relay set the state record.
