Columbia, S.C. - South Carolina backed the shutout pitching of Aaron Rawl and two relievers with a 23 hit attack Friday and scored in every inning to rout Radford University 20-0 in the opener of a three game baseball series.

The second game is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Saturday at Sarge Frye Field with Zac McCamie, 1-0, South Carolina's scheduled starting pitcher.

Rawl worked six innings and allowed all six Radford hits to record his second win of the season as the seventh ranked Gamecocks improved to 4-0.

A senior right-hander, Rawl struck out five and walked none to notch his 28th career win. Sophomore right-hander Harris Honeycutt struck out three and walked three in two innings and freshman left-hander Brandon White pitched the ninth. He struck out the three batters he faced in his first collegiate appearance.

Justin Tubb, 0-2, the first of four Radford pitchers, was charged with the loss. In 3 1/3 innings he allowed 12 hits and 10 runs, nine of them earned. He struck out one. Radford's record dropped to 1-3.

South Carolina's hits included 10 doubles, one shy of the school record set in a 38-0 win over Charleston Southern last year. Catcher Ian Paxton had two doubles with Michael Campbell, Steven Tolleson, Cory Vanderhook, Brendan Winn, Jon Willard, Neil Giesler, Phil Disher and Andrew Crisp contributing one double apiece.

Tolleson tied a school record with two triples, the second coming with the bases loaded. He and Crisp had four runs batted in and each had three hits. Designated hitter Willard had four hits including his first home run and drove in two runs as did Giesler. Campbell also had three hits.

The Gamecocks scored one run in the first, fifth, seventh and eighth innings, three times in the second, third and fourth, and batted around in the sixth, scoring seven times in that inning.

Alan Ashworth and John Vellines had two hits for Radford. All six of Radford's hits were singles.
