University of South Carolina incoming freshman Jimmy Maurer is featured in the Faces in the Crowd section of this week's issue of Sports Illustrated. Maurer, a native of Lawrenceville, Ga., has signed a national letter-of-intent to join the Gamecock soccer team as a goalkeeper this fall.

Maurer attended St. Pius X Catholic High School in Atlanta, capping his career with 41 goals and 29 assists. He was named the Georgia Gatorade State Player of the Year for 2006-07 at goalkeeper and earned all-state honors as a midfielder. In addition, Maurer was selected National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-South Region at forward as a junior.
