Gainesville, Fla. - The South Carolina women's swimmng and diving team was defeated by third ranked Florida 131-111 on Friday afternoon the O'Connell Center. Carolina was led by junior swimmer Haley Skaggs and senior diver Lauren King who each won two events apiece for the Gamecocks. Skaggs took home first place in the 50 and 100 freestyle while King won the one-meter and three-meter springboard competitions.

King has placed first for Carolina on both boards in all of the first three competitions for Carolina this season. King won the one-meter board with a score of 278.70 with a score of 291.45 to take the top spot on the three-meter board.

Skaggs won the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.90, her fastest time this season and went 51.88 earning first place in the 100 freestyle. Also scoring points in both events for South Carolina was senior Carolynn McHugh, who finished third in both the 50 freestyle (24.32) and 100 freestyle (52.54). USC also had success in the 200 freestyle as freshman Christy Williams placed first with a time of 1:51.62. Freshman Lauren Fayssoux took third in the 200 freestyle (1:52.93) and freshman Kelli Hobbs was fifth (1:55.12) rounding out the point scorers for Carolina. Williams was also third place in the 200 butterfly (2:02.89).

Mandee Cregar, Carly Hensel and Kendel Fiorentino finished in the top three slots for the 200 breaststroke. Cregar went 2:20.07, Hensel finished 2;24.10 and Fiorentino ended at 2:26.05. Sophomore Lyndsey Havens also scored points for USC in diving with a third place finish on the three-meter board with a score of 271.05.

The USC women's swimming and diving team returns to action on Saturday at 1 pm ET as the Gamecocks face Miami (Fla.) in a non-conference dual meet. Carolina is 1-0 this season vs. the ACC with last week's dual meet win over Clemson.
